Nina Simone “Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood”
from To Be Free: The Nina Simone Story (RCA / Legacy 2008) —This is the 1964 original version of the song composed by Bennie Benjamin, Gloria Caldwell & Sol Marcus. The vocal on this kills me every time.

Barbara Lynn “Oh! Baby (We Got a Good Thing Goin')”
from The Jamie Singles Collection (Jamie/Guydn 2008) —Written by Barbara Lynn & recorded in 1964. She's still performing & sounding great to this very day.

King Curtis “What'd I Say (Part 1)”
from Soul Time (Great American Music 2010) —Music bed. Instrumental version of the Ray Charles hit recorded in 1962. Barbara Lynn also does a fantastic version of this live (and has so for decades) but I can't find any evidence that she has ever recorded this song.

The Beatles “Dizzy Miss Lizzie”
from Help! [2009 Mono Remaster] (CAPITOL 1965) —Now for the contrast & compare segment of the show. 1965 mono version of the Larry Williams song.

Gene Page & The 21st Century LTD “Heavy Changes”
from Blacula (Music from the Original Soundtrack) (Rev-Ola 2009) —Reissue of the 1971 Blacula original sountrack. Written by Gene Page & Billy Page with vocals performed by The 21st Century LTD (no idea who they are). This is one heck of an entertaining soundtrack. Deadlier than Dracula!
