Mulatu Astatke “Yèkèrmo Sèw (A Man of Experience and Wisdom)”
from Éthiopiques, Vol. 4: Ethio Jazz & Musique Instrumentale (1969-1974) (Buda Musique 2004) —1969 Ethiopian jazz instrumental composed by Mulatu Astatke who also plays keyboards and is the bandleader for these recordings. I never noticed the English translation of this song title, before.
Big Joe Turner “Cherry Red”
from Hommage A Nesuhi (Rhino unk 2008) —Written by Big Joe Turner & Pete Johnson (who also plays piano on this track) and recorded for Atlantic in 1956. Produced by Nesuhi Ertegun & Jerry Wexler and found on this 5-CD collection of jazz tracks recorded for Atlantic from 1955-1976.
Doris Troy “You Tore Me Up Inside”

Garland Jeffreys “The Contortionist”
from The King of In Between (Luna Park 2011) N —New release which just came out last week -- his first release in 13 years. This really fine Stones-influenced track also features Lou Reed on background vocals. Recommended to me by Rick Cornell of WCOM 103.5 (Carrboro, NC) & www.taprootradio.
Faces “Glad And Sorry”
from The Best of Faces: Good Boys... When They're Asleep (Rhino unk 1999) —Written by Ronnie Lane & released in 1973 on the Ooh La La album.
Bob Dylan “Isis”
from Desire Vinyl Album (Columbia 1975) —Written by Bob Dylan & Jacques Levy. "I married Isis on the fifth day of May/But I could not hold on to her very long/So I cut off my hair and rode straight away/To the wild unknown country where I could not go wrong." From there it gets strange.
Joe South “Hush”
from Sounds From The South: At The Crossroads of Rock, Country and Soul (Soul Jazz 2011) N —Written by Joe South & recorded in 1969.
