Drive-by Truckers “Everybody Needs Love”
from Go-Go Boots (ATO www.atorecords.com 2011) N —#14 - Coming in at #14 in my year-end Top 40, the DBTs new album was not one of my favorites of their catalog but that's because I simply love some of their older stuff. It's still good enough for my #14 of 2011.
Centro-Matic “All the Talkers”
from Candidate Waltz (Undertow 2011) N —#13 - 5 years in the works, Centro-Matic put out their best album since 2003's Love You Just the Same.
Dawes “The Way You Laugh”
from Nothing Is Wrong (Ato Records / Red 2011) N —#10 - Formed in the Los Angeles suburb of North Hills (the name of their debut album) and led by brothers Tyler and Griffin Goldsmith. This is their 2nd album.
The Lonely Forest “(I Am) The Love Addict”
from Arrows (ILG/Trans Records 2011) N —#8 - From the third full-length album of this Washington based band signed to Chris Walla's label. Great power pop ... think Nada Surf.
The Black Keys “Gold On the Ceiling”
from El Camino (Nonesuch www.nonesuch.com 2011) N —#7 - Released late in the year, it had some catching up to do. Just announced they're coming to town ... Chaifetz Arena on April 27 with Arctic Monkeys opening.
The Blind Eyes “With a Bang”
from With A Bang (self-released 2011) N L —#6 - These locals put out the most played album on the KDHX airwaves in 2011. Check kdhx.org for a complete list of the top plays of 2011.
Wild Flag “ROMANCE”
from Wild Flag (Merge 2011) N —#5 - Throw in 2 parts Sleater-Kinney and 1 part Helium to a songwriting team and you have Wild Flag. Their debut album, as good as the hype.
Lydia Loveless “More Like Them”
from Indestructible Machine (Bloodshot www.bloodshotrecords.com 2011) N —#3 - Born the daughter of an Ohio farmer who also booked gigs in the local bar, music is in her blood. This 21 year old released her 2nd album in 2011 and it's great! She'll be at Mojo's in Columbia, MO on Thursday, Jan 19 and back in St. Louis on March 3
Telekinesis “CAR CRASH”
from 12 Desperate Straight Lines (Merge 2011) N —#2 - Telekinesis is basically Michael Benjamin Lerner, songwriter, tour drummer and multi-instrumentalist in the studio. From their 2nd album.
