Zeynel Demir & ensemble “Üsküp Yöresi”
from Anatolian Folk Dances 1 (SM Seyhan 2008) —Üsküp = Skopje, the capital of the republic of Macedonia, but which was part of the Ottoman Empire at one time. These tunes are known to every Slavic Macedonian, but not in Turkey, to my knowledge, so this is a bit of a piece of musical irony - or is it?
Neşe Demirkat Müzik “Kalk Gelin Hanım”
from Anadolu Rüzgarı/Wind of Anatolia - Trakya'dan Esintiler (Nese Demirkat 2004) —a Macedonian and Bulgarian song, again, in turkish style
Soner Özbilen “Mavrova'dan”
from Türkülerle Türkiye - 39 Kırklareli (Ulus Müzik 1999) —for the rest of this show the music will all be from Trakya - Thracian (European) Turkey - the area northwest of Istanbul. We start with a song which, again, could be a Greek Kalamatiano (7/8) from Kirklareli
