Famous Monsters “Outerspace deathrace”
from Around The World In 80 Bikinis! (Estrus Records) —Hound Dog Brown is filling in for Sherri Danger today. Thanks, MsSherri, for inviting me!

Bessie Smith “Baby won't you please come home”
from Complete Recordings Vol 1 (Columbia)

Betty Everett “Ain't gonna cry”
from The Cobra Records Story (Capricorn Records)

Bessie Smith “Gimme A Pigfoot”
from Bessie Smith - The Collection (CBS Records) R  —I invited listeners to call in with a Bessie Smith request, and here's one of Lynn's faves!

The Davis Sisters “You got the Jordan river to cross”
from The Best Of The Davis Sisters (Savoy Records) —The Davis sisters were a Holy Blues powerhouse vocal group from Philadelphia PA.

Hadda Brooks “Teenage Boogie”
from Swingin' the Boogie, Vol. 2 (Ace Records 2003) —Hadda was a formidable boogie woogie piano player who recorded mostly for the Modern label.

Bessie Smith “I Ain't Gonna Play No Second Fiddle”
from Bessie Smith - The Collection (CBS Records) R  —Carlos called and requested this one.....two for the price of one. Bessie on vocal, and Louis Armstrong on cornet.

The Chantels “Maybe”
from Great Ladies Of Rock & Roll (Collectables Records) —To switch musical gears...some rock ladies of the '50s.

Zoe Muth & the Lost High Rollers “Middle of nowhere.”
from Zoe Muth and the Lost High Rollers (Continental Song City 2012) —When a young gal writes and sings a country song these days, if I may humbly opine, THIS is what it should sound like ; - )

David Frizzell & Shelly West “You're The Reason God Made Oklahoma”
from The Very Best of David Frizzell & Shelly West (Varèse Sarabande Records, Inc. 2009) —This was a #1 C&W hit for Shelly and David in 1981. Felice and Boudleaux Bryant wrote this along with Larry Collins and Sandy Pinkard. Shelly West is daughter of C&W star Dottie West.

Gogi Grant “The wayward wind”
from Great Ladies Of Rock & Roll (Collectables Records) —This is a favorite of Gabriel's, and he requested it. Listen to Gabriel on KDHX every Sunday night at midnight to 3 a.m. Monday morning!

John Barry Orchestra “James Bond Theme (From Dr. No)”
from James Bond - 13 Original Themes (DANJAQ S.A.) —In tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and to Her Majesty's Secret Service, here is a set of three Bond movie themes.

Shirley Bassey “Goldfinger”
from James Bond - 13 Original Themes (DANJAQ S.A.) —Shirley Bassey sang at least three of the Bond movie themes, and is the iconic Bond theme vocalist.

Nancy Sinatra “You Only Live Twice”
from James Bond - 13 Original Themes (DANJAQ S.A.) —And, Ms Sinatra did a very capable job on this theme!

Janis Joplin “Black mountain blues”
from Janis (Columbi/Legacy 1998) —I'm playing two cuts from a double LP issued by Columbia in 1975. These are pre-Big Brother & the Holding Company, and were only intended as homemade demo tapes. They catch Janis singing the blues before the world knew who she was.

Janis Joplin “C. C. rider”
from Janis (Columbi/Legacy 1998) —This cut was recorded in '63 or '64 in Austin TX on a home recorder. Janis was drenched in the blues to the core, and these recordings are plenty of proof.

Cee Cee James “I Got A Right To Sing The Blues”
from Blood Red Blues (FWG Records 2012) N  —Ms James lives and performs locally. She belts out the blues in a manner that I'd think Janis Joplin would do had she not died at such a young age.

Nikki Hill “Strapped to the beat”
from Nikki Hill (self released 2013) N  —And, Ms Hill lives and performs locally too. This cut is from her debut CD issued this year.

Carolina Chocolate Drops “Ruby, Are You Mad At Your Man?”
from Leaving Eden (Nonesuch 2012) N  —Rhiannon Giddens is the female vocalist with the Chocolate Drops, and this song, written by Cousin Emmy, is a good showcase for her vocal talent. The Chocolate Drops will appear at the Sheldon in St. Louis on Nov. 16.

Camille Howard “Boogie in G”
from Rock Me Daddy (Specialty)

Bonnie Raitt “Ain't Gonna Let You Go”
from Slipstream (Redwing Records 2012) N  —Here's a gal who sings like a woman, and plays bottleneck slide guitar like a man! Thank you for the fine phone calls.
