Pulp “Sorted For E's & Wizz”
from Different Class (Island 1995) —A charming little song I just discovered yesterday. I really should go back and listen to Pulp some more.
John Cale “I Wanna Talk 2 U”
from Shifty Adventures In Nookie Wood (Domino 2012) N —This song produced by Danger Mouse is a frustrating indication of just how amazing a record they could have made together. The rest of the album is okay, but this song is spectacular.
Dirty Projectors “Two Doves”
from Bitte Orca (Domino 2009) —Every once in a while, these guys get in my head with something. This is a really pretty little song.
Paul McCartney & Wings “Call Me Back Again”
from Venus and Mars CD Album (CAPITOL 1975) —I remember being such a dork that I had to buy this album just because it had a song called "Magneto & Titanium Man." But it's a pretty good record besides the comic book reference.
David Essex “Gonna Make You a Star”
from The David Essex Album (Wounded Bird 1978) —Another great song I just discovered yesterday. Of course I knew "Rock On," but in all these years, I've never heard anything else from this guy.
from OK Computer (CAPITOL 1997) —The last time I was captivated by Radiohead. They've had their moments since, but this record still mesmerizes.
Pere Ubu “Another One (Oh Maybellene)”
from Lady from Shanghai (FIRE 2013) N —One never knows what to expect with a new record from David Thomas and his compatriots.
Wire “Map Ref 41 Degrees N 93 Degrees W”
from 154 (Pink Flag 2006) —Interrupting my train of thought, lines of longitude and latitude.
Half Knots “Drive Away”
from Proof (self 2013) N L —Very good St. Louis band that pops up every now and again.
David Olney “Go Down Dupree”
from Robbery & Murder (Deadbeet 2013) N —An intriguing concept album, on which he fleshes out the stories of Betty and Dupree, and of Delia (familiar from "Delia's Gone."
The Mavericks “Born To Be Blue”
from Suited Up and Ready (Valory 2012) N —For various reasons, I haven't been checking out the new arrival shelves at the station for a while - I don't know what the story is about this EP, but it's magnificent music.
