Little Milton “We're Gonna Make It”
from The Classic Rhythm & Blues Collection, Vol. 2 1964-1966 (Time Life 2001) —One of the most underrated blues singers and guitarists.
Neko Case “Bracing For Sunday”
from The Worse Things Get, the Harder I Fight, the Harder I Fight, the More I Love You (Anti- www.anti.com 2013) N —So far this year, KDHX has played from this album four times, but only two songs. Interesting.
Nona Hendryx “We Can't Make It No More”
from Back to the Streets - Celebrating the Music of Don Covay (Shanachie 2006) —I will listen to Nona Hendryx sing anything she wants, but I hope I can be forgiven for hoping she does an album of this sort of thing one day. Wonderful soul singing on a classic song.
Los Lobos “On a Night Like This”
from Masked and Anonymous (Music from the Motion Picture) (Columbia 2003) —What a great version of this song! I think I'll play some more Los Lobos.
Brownsville Station “Let Your Yeah Be Yeah”
from Smokin' in the Boys Room: The Best of Brownsville Station (Rhino 1993) —A lesson in how to take a Jimmy Cliff song and make it a rock anthem.
Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell “That's All It Took”
from The Big E: A Salute To Steel Guitarist Buddy Emmons (Music Producers Institute 2013) N —Steve Fishell takes the steel guitar for this George Jones cover.
