Stephen Stills “Bound to Fall”
from Manassas (Atlantic 1972) —I love to hear Stills play the guitar - and back in those days, he could still sing!
Aimee Mann “Crazytown”
from Charmer Single (Superego 2012) N —I've never heard a bad record by Aimee Mann. Wonder if she could possibly make one?
Rain Parade “Fertile Crescent”
from Crashing Dream (Island 1986) —The band was on its last legs at this point, but still capable of putting together strong, memorable songs.
Matthew Sweet “Daisychain”
from Sunshine Lies (Shout! Factory 2008) —He's playing at the Duck Room tomorrow night - I know he's doing the Girlfriend album again, and I know that brings out bigger crowds, but man, songs like this one deserve to be aired.
Bob Dylan “Pay in Blood”
from Tempest (Columbia 2012) N —Sometimes I wonder if Dylan listens to himself and hears Louis Armstrong.
John Cale “Andalucia”
from Paris 1919 (Reprise Records 1973) —Cale has a new album due out soon, which may be why I keep drifting towards his older stuff. Anyway - wow!
Dwight Yoakam “Take Hold of My Hand”
from 3 Pears (Warner Brothers 2012) N —Another terrific Dwight Yoakam record. Possibly the most consistent songwriter/singer/performer of our time.
Dan Bern “Capetown”
from Drifter (self 2012) N —One of our greatest songwriters toils in obscurity.
Like everything else, times are approximate.
