Milwaukee Slim “Miss R.J.”
from Lemmon Avenue (Blue Loon Records 1995) —Angelo "Milwaukee Slim" Chambers wasn't from Wisconsin at all. Sonny Boy II gave him that nickname while on the road somewhere and it stuck. Mr. Chambers spent the last couple decades of his music career deeply embeddded into the Minneapolis blues scene
Otis Redding “Tell The Truth”
from Dreams to Remember: The Otis Redding Anthology (Rhino 1998) —Otis, along with pilot Richard Fraser, drummer Matthew Kelly, lead guitarist of the Bar-Kays Jimmy King, tenor saxophonist Phalon Jones, organist Ronnie Caldwell and drummer Carl Cunningham, died in Dec 1967 in a plane crash near Madison, Wisconsin. Ben
Booker T. & the MGs “Consumption”
from Booker T. and The MGs/The Mar-Keys Stax Instrumentals (Fantasy www.concordmusicgroup.com/labels/fantasy 2003) —whoo!
Clarence Carter “The Road Of Love”
from Snatching It Back: The Best of Clarence Carter (Atlantic 1992) —This is what I'm talkin' about - good stuff! This was recorded in Muscle Shoals back in 1967, and rose to #2 R&B and #6 Pop. Also, Shreveport band The Bluebirds have recorded a very nice, if slighty swamified, version of this great track.
