Rodney Crowell “'Til I Gain Control Again”
from Acoustic Trio Live (self 2011) N —w/accompaniment of Will Kimbrough and Jenny Scheinman in memory of Larry Weir, hard to believe it's been 2 years. This new cd can be downloaded from Rodney's website.
Jerry Jeff Walker “Stoney”
from Night After Night (C&P 1995) —I'd forgotten about this song, until Todd Snider closed his wonderful show at the Seldon on Friday with a great version.
Solomon Burke “Up the Mountain (feat. Patty Griffin)”
from Nashville (Shout! Factory Records 2006) R —Was trying to think of a song for Martin Luther King Day, when a listener requested this one by Patty Griffin and the late Soloman Burke, Perfect !!!
Jude Johnstone “Quiet Girl” (Bojak Records 2011) N —Another 2011 discovery that I really enjoyed, looking forward to hearing more from this Southern California songwriter who has had hits for Trisha Yearwood, Johnny Cash Bonnie Raitt and others.
Beyond Reach “Younger Years”
from Waiting On the Sun - EP (Beyond Reach Music 2011) N —Original members of the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Larry Lee (Jackie Blue) and Randle Chowning are joined by David Wilson and Ned Wilkinson with a great set of new originals straight from the Ozarks.
Bonnie Ste-Croix “Front Porch Girl”
from Canadian Girl (Bonnie Ste-Croix 2011) N —Bonnie decided to travel across Canada and record a song in each Province & Territory with special guests from each, this one's from Ontario with Stephen Fearing, Kate Reid, & Lynne Hanson as guests, great stuff !!
Billy Joe Shaver “Georgia On A Fast Train”
from Billy Joe Shaver: Greatest Hits (Compadre 2007) —Billie Joe Shaver will be at the Old Rockhouse this Tuesday, January 17, the country outlaw legend comes to town for the amazing listening room series, congrats to our ticket winner, appreciate all the calls.
Donal Hinely “The Famous Rocket Cage” (Atom 2011) —Veteran songwriter Donal Hinely with another great set of originals besides this fine title cut, he does a baseball song, so he's an instant hit on this show.
John Hiatt “adios to california”
from Dirty Jeans and Mudslide Hymns (New West 2011) N —Always look forward to each and every release by John, one of our truly great songwriters and performers, now let's hope 2012 brings his live show to town.
Mustard's Retreat “The First Flower”
from Living In the Dream (Yellow Room Records 2011) N —@ Eliot Chapel's Soulstice Cafe on Sunday, February 19, longtime fan of Michael Hough and David Tamulevich, can't believe it's taken them this long to get to St.Louis from Michigan, I intend to be there, you should mark your calender too !!!
Mustard's Retreat “Find a Way to Love”
from Living In the Dream (Yellow Room Records 2011) N —Accidently played 2, not a bad thing, David wrote this one specifically for his dulcimer, again highly recommended 2/19, wonderful new songwriter series taking place at Kirkwood's Eliot Chapel, Soulstice Cafe.
Marshall Chapman “Falling Through the Trees”
from Big Lonesome (TallGirl 2010) —Marshall made this whole album a tribute to her friend Tim Krekel who died June 24, 2009 at 58 from cancer, they were planning a cd together, Tim recorded 8 solo albums and was a logtime guitarist for Jimmy Buffett and others.
The Breakmen “What You'll Find”
from HEARTWOOD (The Breakmen 2010) —New discoveries are always a treat, one of those in 2011 for me was this great Canadian bluegrass band, Matthew Lawson, Archie Pateman, Ben Rogalsky, & Lee Watson, this song was written by Archie, stay tuned for more.
