Wendy Rene “After Laughter (Comes Tears)” from Cheatin' Soul (Trikont 2005) —Mary Frierson of the Drapels recorded solo as Wendy Rene & released three singles for Stax between 1964-65. She co-wrote this with her brother, Johnny Friersen. Booker T. Jones is on organ and Al Jackson, Jr. on drums.Buy it!
Kai Winding “Time Is On My Side” from The Jerry Ragovoy Story: Time Is On My Side: 1953-2003 (Ace 2008) —This set goes out in memory of Jerry Ragovoy who passed away recently at the age of 80. This is the original version of the song later covered by Irma Thomas & The Rolling Stones.This 1963 recording was written & arranged by Jerry Ragovoy.Buy it!

Aretha Franklin “Border Song (Holy Moses)” from Young, Gifted and Black (Atlantic 1972) —Written by Elton John & Bernie Taupin and recorded in 1970. Besides Aretha Franklin on piano, that's Billy Preston on organ & The Sweet Inspirations on backing vocals. She will be appearing for the grand reopening of the Peabody Opera House on 10/1.Buy it!
Bettie Serveert “I'll Keep It With Mine” from I Shot Andy Warhol ST (Atlantic 1996) —1996 Bob Dylan cover found on the soundtrack to the Todd Haynes film. I'll go out on a limb and say he doesn't mind using Bob Dylan songs in his soundtracks.Buy it!
