Nikolina Chakurdukova “Pusta mladost/More Na Sred Selo Cheshma sharena/Dedo Mili zlatni/Mitro Le Mitro”
from Edna Mechta II (ARA www.ara-bg.com 2005) —a suite of very well-known traditional songs, done up in contemporary style. This show is entirely devoted to music from Pirin, the part of Macedonia that is in the south-eastern corner of Bulgaria.

4:11pm

Perun “Razbolela mi se pûrvoto libe”
from Perun i priyateli (VD www.vvd-r.com 2008) —in so-called "Macedonian 7"

4:17pm

Kostadin Atanasov “Tezhko Makedonsko horo & Rusaliyski igri”
from Sharena Gaïda (VD www.vvd-r.com 2008) —This style of Gaïda (bagpipe) playing can be found anywhere in the Macedonia area. This stylization owes a lot to the work of Pece Atanasovski, who worked on the other side of the Bulgarian/Yugoslav border in the 60's, 70's 80's and 90's.

4:22pm

Perun “sedemdeset sela shetam”
from Perun i priyateli (VD www.vvd-r.com 2008)

4:24pm

from Най-добрите македонски песни - II (Stars records www.starsrecords.com/ 2007) —Although this, and the next 3 selections, give the date as 2007, they are much older recordings from 20-3- years ago, licensed from Balkanton recording company.

4:51pm

ens. Pirin “Море пиле, славей пиле”
from Най-добрите македонски песни - II (Stars records www.starsrecords.com/ 2007) —This is the old "state ensemble style" of folk music presentation. The vocal harmonies, while very Bulgarian, are not at all traditional in the sense of "village music".

5:05pm

Raïna, with Ivan Dyukov “Tri Godini”
from Maïko, edna si na sveta (Payner ww.payner.bg 2007) —a great song in 9/8, recorded so it can be danced to - i.e. with an extended and lively insrumental

5:09pm

ens. Pirin “Питат Ме, Мамо, В Село Момите”
from Най-Добрите Македонски Песни [Част 1] (Stars records www.starsrecords.com/) —another song in "state ensemble style"
