from Dirty Mind (Warner Brothers 1980) —Written, produced & arranged by Prince. Cyndi Lauper later covered this song in 1984 on her "She's So Unusual" release.
Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan “Lately”
from Hawk (Vanguard 2010) N —This has to be one of the best vocals I've ever heard from Mark Lanegan. Written by Isobel Campbell and found on this recommended new release which just came out this week.
Peter Wolf “The Green Fields of Summer”
from Midnight Souvenirs (Verve 2010) —Written by Peter Wolf & Will Jennings and found on his new release. This track also features the vocals of Neko Case. Highly recommended.
Jeff Tweedy “Simple Twist of Fate”

The Monkees “Porpoise Song (Theme from "Head")”
from The Best of the Monkees (Rhino 1967) —Written by Gerry Goffin & Carole King and recorded in 1968. This track features the lead vocals of Mickey Dolenz and was arranged by Jack Nitzsche & produced by Gerry Goffin.
The Beatles “Norwegian Wood”
from Rubber Soul (EMI 1982) —From their sixth abum released in 1965. I think it's a keeper.
The Burns Unit “You Need Me to Need This”

Richard & Linda Thompson “Jet Plane in a Rocking Chair”
from Pour Down Like Silver (Hannibal 1975) —This 1975 release might not be as well known as "Shoot Out the Lights" & "I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight" but just about as impressive. That's saying a whole lot.
Dear Vincent “Crooked Jack”
from So Long Winter CD Album (self 2010) N L —From the St. Louis band's debut release. Some really impressive arrangements on this 6-song EP.
Tom Waits “Time”
from Rain Dogs (Island 1985) —1985 song written by Tom Waits. One of his finest ballads, I think.
Michelle Shocked “Come a Long Way ”
from Arkansas Traveler (Polygram 1992) —Written by Michelle Shocked and released in 1992. Michelle Shocked will be appearing at Off Broadway in September (9/18 Saturday).
Joe Simon “Travellin' Man”
from Monument of Soul (RPM 2001) —Written by Joe Simon and originally released as the b-side of a 1967 single on the Sound Stage 7 label.
Swamp Dogg “Total Destruction to Your Mind” Single (Canyon Records unk 1970) —Written by Jerry Williams, Jr. aka Swamp Dogg and recorded in 1970.
