Chris Clark “Love's Gone Bad (Single Version)”
from The Complete Motown Singles, Vol. 6: 1966 (Hip-O Select / Motown 2006) —Written by Holland, Dozier & Holland with lead vocals recorded in 1966. Originally assigned to The Supremes but Motown decided to have her add the vocals, instead. Kind of a rave-up, I'd say.
The Underdogs “Love's Gone Bad (Single Version)”
from The Complete Motown Singles Vol. 7: 1967 (Hip-O Select / Motown 2007) —This rock record was the first single put out by Motown in 1967. This band was based out of Grosse Pointe, MI & named after the cartoon character. This was the contrast-and-compare-with-the-Chris-Clark-version segment of the show.
Dean & Britta “Ann Buchanan Theme”
from 13 Most Beautiful: Songs For Andy Warhol's Screen Tests (Double Feature Records 2010) —Music bed. Instrumental from 2010 written for one of Andy Warhol's short B & W silent films made between 1964 & 1966.
Richmond Fontaine “The Escape”
from The High Country (El Cortez 2011) N —Featuring the vocals of Willie Vlautin. This album is meant to be listened to as a whole with musical interludes, some spoken-word songs & a story that weaves through the entire album. Hard to really do justice with one song.
Iris DeMent “Wasteland of the Free”
from The Way I Should (Warner Bros. 1996) —"We got CEOs making two hundred times the workers' pay but they'll fight like hell against raising the minimum wage and If you don't like it, mister, they'll ship your job to some third-world country 'cross the sea ..."
