Melody Den “Storylines” (Perdition 2013) N L —I was too chicken to brave the potential ice storm and catch their CD release last week. The photos I've seen indicate it was one heck of a fun show, though.
The Blasters “Fool's Paradise”
from Non Fiction (Rhino 1983) —Phil Alvin was having some health issues a few months back - I hope he's doing better.
James Hunter “I'll Walk Away”
from Believe What I Say (Ace 1996) —Ten years before I discovered James Hunter, he had an album out that most of my friends who love him still haven't heard.
Albert King “Need More Mamma”
from Windy City Blues (Delta) (stax 1992) —Albert King working with Willie Dixon - not a lot of examples of that out there. This has some blistering Albert King guitar.
AC/DC “Black Ice” (Columbia 2008) —My fave song from what is still their latest album.
X “Your Phone's Off the Hook But You're Not”
from Los Angeles (Rhino 2001) —Oh, how we used to love singing along with X.
from Love Bites (EMI 1978) —They had so many great songs, I'd almost forgotten this gem.
The Beatles “Lady Madonna”
from Past Masters (CAPITOL 1987) —Some songs just sound richer and richer with age. They pack so much into just over two minutes.
Anders Osborne “Higher Ground”
from Black Eye Galaxy (Alligator 2012) —There's a heck of a lot to wrestle with on this album from last May, and now I find out he's about to release a new one.
Mighty Sparrow “Man Like to Feel”
from Volume Four (Ice 1994) —Ladies, you don't really want to take this advice, but you gotta admit, even when he's being a pig, he sounds cool.
Patti Smith “Up There Down There”
from Dream of Life (Arista 1988) —Dream of Life seemed so underwhelming at the time, but this song holds up pretty well, actually.
Like everything else, times are approximate.
