Over the Rhine “The Laugh of Recognition” from The Long Surrender (GSD 2011N  —I am still enamored with the mysteriously intoxicating sound of this record,.Buy it!


Solomon Burke “I Gotta Be With You” from Hold On Tight (Universal unk 2011N  —The final record from one of America's greatest singers was a fitting legacy for this giant of soul.Buy it!


Isaac Hayes “Something” from Stax Does the Beatles (stax 2008) —Originally from the Issac Hayes Movement album, yet another stunning example of the orchestrated brilliance of the man's records for a couple years there.Buy it!


Marianne Faithfull “Goin' Back” from Horses And High Heels (Naive 2010N  —Goffin and King and Marianne Faithfull - gorgeous!Buy it!


Pelvic Girdles “Longest Thing” from Sad Hammer (self 2011N L —A nicely moody little number from this St. Louis trio.Buy it!


Magazie “The Light Pours Out of Me” from Where the Power Is (Virgin 2011N  —Picking 16 songs to represent the career of Magazine, who made 5 albums (4 studio, 1 live), most of which were perfect, just means you're leaving stuff off.
