J. Geils Band “Freeze Frame” (EMI 1981) —Or as it popped into my head - "Freese Frame"!
Phantom Planet “Do the Panic”
from The Guest (Epic 2002) —I was doing some panic last night, but it all worked out - was that a great ballgame or what?
The McCrary Sisters “Other Side of the Blues (Since I Met You)”
from Our Journey (McC 2011) N —It's the blues, it's gospel, it's great! And Delbert McClinton is there, too.
Sam Phillips “No Explanations”
from Don't Do Anything (Nonesuch 2008) —I haven't been able to keep up with Sam Phillips and her new-fangled downloads, but this one from 3 years ago still sounds good.
Kasabian “Acid Turkish Bath (Shelter From the Storm)”
from Velociraptor (Sony 2011) N —Cat played this on her show the other day, and I had to copy her - it's a cool song, and it's got cowbell!
Pajama Club “Can't Put It Down Until It Ends”
from Pajama Club (Lester 2011) N —Brother Neil Finn's latest; it's not his best, but it's still catchy.
Isaac Hayes “Truck Turner (Main Title)”
from Baadasss Cinema (Beyond 2001) —Bonus cowbell on this attempt to follow up Shaft with another winner. Good song, but not as great as Shaft.
Tom Waits “Bad As Me” (Anti- www.anti.com 2011) N —I've only heard about three songs, but so far, this new Tom Waits is sounding amazing. Here he has Marc Ribot back on guitar with him, and Charlie Musselwhite on harp!
Big Star “Way Out West”
from Radio City (Ardent 1974) —I've been listening to the Big Star box set and hearing these songs with brand new ears - holy cow! That's the best remastering job ever.
The Posies “The Glitter Prize”
from Blood / Candy (Ryko 2010) —This has to be the best album from 2010 that I didn't get to hear until late in 2011.
Vince Gill “Guitar Slinger” (MCA NASHVILLE 2011) N —Gill put out so much music in 2006 - 4 disc set, remember? - that it's taken a while to produce a follow-up. But this song kicks hard!
Foster & Lloyd “Hold That Thought”
from It's Already Tomorrow (Effin Ell 2011) N —So many excellent songs on this reunion of great singers/writers/players. And Tom Petersson of Cheap Trick plays bass (& guitar on this cut).
