Cheap Trick “On Top of the World”
from Heaven Tonight (Epic 1978) —I still remember the day I bought this album, along with Elvis Costello's "This Year's Model," at Grandpa Pigeon's, on sale for like $4 each.
Ian Hunter “Once Bitten Twice Shy”
from Ian Hunter (Columbia 1975) —I actually hadn't heard this one in years until the other day - it still sounds magnificent.
Generation X “Your Generation”
from Generation X (Chrysalis 1978) —Martin Rushent, who produced a lot of great records & helped forge the sound of punk rock, passed away a few days back. I know he produced Gen X, couldn't find out if he did this single or not.
The Stranglers “No More Heroes” (EMI 1977) —Definitely a Martin Rushent production.
Linda Ronstadt “You're No Good”
from Heart Like a Wheel (CAPITOL 1974) —Andrew Gold was the brains behind Ronstadt's run of giant hits back in the day - his electric piano on this one fuels a pretty darn good record.
Benny Spellman “Fortune Teller” (Collectables 1988) —The great New Orleans vocalist Benny Spellman passed away the other day.
The Beatles “I Need You”
from Help! CD Album (CAPITOL 1965) —That George Harrison wrote some nice ones, didn't he?
Joe Ely “The Highway Is My Home”
from Satisfied at Last (Rack 'Em 2011) N —I love the sound of this new song from Joe Ely, and of course the song itself is terrific.
Kate & Anna McGarrigle “Come a Long Way”
from Tell My Sister (Nonesuch 2011) N —This 3-disc set includes newly remastered versions of their first 2 masterful records (including Dancer With Bruised Knees which has this song) and a disc of demos.
