Cheryl Dilcher “High”
from Butterfly (A&M Records 1973) —Accompanying herself on six and twelve string acoustic guitar, Cheryl Dilcher produced three albums of her poetic tunes between 1973 and 1977. Unfortunately, she arose on the scene at a time when the popularity of acoustic music was at a lull. Although he
Skip Battin “St. Louis Browns”
from Skip Battin (Atlantic 1972) —Mr. Battin later appeared with lineups of the Flying Burrito Brothers and New Riders of the Purple Sage.
from A Good Feelin To Know (Epic) —Poco led by Ritchie Furay/ Rusty Young/ Paul Cotton/Timothy Schmitt/George Grantham put out this great heavier album in 72, it should have been huge!
DB's “Turn it Loose”
from Takin it to the Streets (Warner Brothers) —A great song but the last Tom Johnston song that he would write and sing with the band. Jeff Skunk Baxter (Steely Dan) duals on the guitars with him!
Elliott Randall “Bustin' my Brains”
from Randalls Island (Polydor) —Mr. Randall never got huge despite what a great guitar player he was, however he played with Steely Dan on My Old School and with others too. He did the original demo guitar with Pat Benetar on "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" but was not on the final version
Fantasy “Stoned Cowboy”
from Fantasy (Black Rills Records) —Stoned Cowboy" is a flat instrumental number where Vincent James DeMeo, Jr. delivers a nice solo on fuzz guitar.
Guess Who “Diggin' Yourself”
from Flavours (RCA) —Guess Who at their least commercial and jazziest!
Guess Who “Hoe Down Time”
from Flavors (RCA) —Another cut from a band's who's deep cuts are very underrated.
The James Gang “Tend My Garden”
from Rides Again (MCA 1970) —the second album recorded in 1969. Rusty Young of Poco, plays on a track too.
