Adam Carroll “Far Away Blues” (Blue Corn Music 2005) —Lloyd Maines produces this wonderful Texas wordsmith, who reminds me of Texas icon Butch Hancock.

from Rough Tough Game (Kris Barnes & Bruce Jones 2008) —Former bass player for Omar and the Howlers and Songwriter Sowcase in studio guest with his latest joined by Kris Barnes.

from Safe Upon the Shore (Warner Music Canada 2010) —Co-written with Russell Crowe, great Steve Berlin (Los Lobos) produced cd from this high energy Nova Scotia trio, who put on one of the best live shows your likely to see.


The Elders “Seven Years”
from Wanderin' Life & Times (Pubtone 2011) N  —New from these Kansas City Celtic rockers, catch them the next time they venture across the state, you won't be dissapointed.


Stan Rogers “The Mary Ellen Carter”
from The Very Best Of Stan Rogers (Fogartys Cove 2009) —The late Stan Rogers with one of the best songs ever written about never giving up in the face of adversity. Newly remastered greatest hits is a great place to start if your not familiar with Stan's music.


Stephen Kellogg & The Sixers “GRAVITY”
from Gift Horse (Vanguard www.vanguardrecords.com 2011) N  —SK & the Sixers will be at the Duck Room on Tuesday, Nov 29. CD release for their brand new album.


Kinky Friedman “Silver Eagle Express”
from Sold American (Vanguard www.vanguardrecords.com) —Kinky will be at Off Broadway on December 2. 2nd visit this year from the Texas icon, it's being billed as The Hanukkah Tour.


Ryan Spearman “Missouri Song”
from Get Along Home (Green Strum 2011) N L —Ryan Spearman will be at the Sheldon on December 1 with Pokey LaFarge. Ryan cd is my favorite release this year by a local songwriter.


John Prine “Souvenirs”
from The Singing Mailman Delivers (Oh Boy Records www.ohboy.com 2011) N  —John Prine will be at the Touhill on December 3. Jason Isbell opens. This is from John's original demo tape that he sent to the record company in 1970.


Eric Taylor W/ Lyle Lovett “Memphis Midnight, Memphis Morning”
from Live at the Red Shack (Blue Ruby 2011) N  —A song first recorded on Eric's very first recording "Through The Dark Nightly" a live recording from Houston's legendary Anderson Fair. X-Wife Nanci Griffith, Denice Franke, James Gilmer, Marco Python Fecchio, & Susan Lindfors Taylor also join in.


Bill Poss “Crossroads”
from Hay (Poss 2011) N  —Co-written with Slaid Cleaves from Bill Passalacqua's new Fred Eaglesmith produced cd, Bill who shortened his name for this one is from Effingham & is married to Ginn sister, Tiffani, he did a great opening set for Fred at Off Broadway.


Scott Nolan “Bad Liver / Broken Heart”
from Receiver / Reflector (Transdigital 66 2008) —Original version of a song Hayes Carll recently covered, from Canadian, singer/songwriter, producer, Scott Nolan. Gurf Morlix co-produces & joins in along with Joanna Miller on this little gem.


Kathleen Edwards “Empty Threat”
from Voyageur (Zoe 2012) N  —Time for Allen's little slice of Bittersweet Melody (Wed. 5 to 7 AM) brand new from Canadian songstress Kathleen Edwards, due out in Jan. but as always you hear it 1st on KDHX.


Lydia Loveless “Steve Earle”
from Indestructable Machine (Bloodshot www.bloodshotrecords.com 2011) N  —New from Lydia who is being stalked by Steve Earle, on her edgey debut.


Steve Earle “The Gulf of Mexico”
from I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive (New West 2011) N  —We end Allen's set with my favorite song from Steve's 2011 release, Thanks Allen, tune in to Bittersweet Melody every Wed. Steve Earle also released a book of the same name this year.


Reckless Kelly “Give It A Try”
from Good Luck & True Love (No Big Deal 2012) N  —We take you home with a couple of new releases from Texas's very talented Braun Family, starting with brothers Willy and Cody's fine band Reckless Kelly.
