Justin Vernon of Bon Iver “Bruised Orange (Chain of Sorrow)”
from Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows: Songs of John Prine (Oh Boy Records 2010) —Thanks for the wonderful support during pledge drive, I really appreciate it. John Prine will be at the Touhill on December 3 with Jason Isbell.
Matt Weber & Nora O'Connor “Souvenirs”
from The Postman Delivers: A Chicago Musicians' Tribute to John Prine V1 (Lost in America 2010) —Another largely overlooked Prine, all Chicago, tribute to their former Mailman, Nora O'Conner was a performer at Twangefest.
Tom Rush “Fall Into the Night”
from What I Know (Appleseed I discovered this song when Pete Seeger passed last year. What a gift. 2009) —Just turned 70, folk legend tackles an Eliza Gilkyson song. Tom Rush will be at the Old Rockhouse on Thursday, Oct 27. Highly recommended !!!
Catherine Britt “If I Could Start Today Again”
from Stories of Me: A Songwriters Tribute to Paul Kelly (Redbird 2003) —Something we'd all like do at times, Catherine Britt sings the heck out of this Paul Kelly tail.
Richard Dobson “Snowing On Raton”
from Amigos - Richard Dobson Sings Townes Van Zandt (Brambus Records 1994) —Very underrated compadre of Townes & Guy Clark, Richard's Townes tribute is much better than the recent one by Steve Earl. Nanci Griffith called Richard "The Ernest Hemingway of songwriters".
Fred Eaglesmith & The Flying Squirrels “Alcohol & Pills”
from Ralph's Last Show (Live In Santa Cruz) (Signature Sounds www.signaturesounds.com 2001) —From my favorite Fred cd, always look forward to Fred's St.Louis visits. Fred will be at Off Broadway on Sunday, October 30. The Ginn Sisters & Bill Poss support.
Bottle Rockets “Smokin' 100's Alone”
from Not So Loud: An Acoustic Evening With The Bottle Rockets (Bloodshot www.bloodshotrecords.com 2011) N L —Brian Henneman will be part of the first Songbird Series at the Focal Point on Wed, Oct 26. Brian will be with Kip Loui, Kevin Bilchik, and Caleb Travers.
