The Young-Holt Unlimited “Soulful Strut” from Brunswick Top 40 R&B Singles 1966-1975 (Brunswick Records 2006) —Music bed. Soul instrumental recorded for the Brunswick label in 1968. Of course, the version of this (Am I The Same Girl) with Barbara Acklin on lead vocals is equally sublime.Buy it!
Shorty Long “Don't Mess With My Weekend” from Here Comes Shorty Long: The Complete Motown Stereo Masters (Kent 2012) N —Found on this highly recommended new compilation of his two albums plus bonus tracks. This track was recorded in 1968 & was written by Shorty Long & Sylvia Moy. So much great material on this.Buy it!
Sugarman 3 “Rudy's Intervention” from What the World Needs Now (Daptone 2012) N —After a ten-year hiatus, The Sugarman 3 has a new release coming out on May 15. If this instrumental is any indication of how the rest of the album sounds, I will be very happy.Buy it!
