Originally assigned to The Supremes but Motown decided to have her add the vocals, instead. Kind of a rave-up, I'd say.Buy it!


Bobby Patterson “Soul Is Our Music” from Soul Is My Music - The Best of Bobby Patterson (Sundazed Music 2003) —1967 single recorded for the Jetstar label & written by Bobby Patterson. Found on this fine 2-CD retrospective of the Texas-based soul singer who still performs to this day.Buy it!


Lawrence & Jaibi “You Make Me Feel Good” from Dave Godin's Deep Soul Treasures - Volume 4 (Kent 2004) —Previously unissued 1967 cover version of a Dynamics song written by Fred Baker & Zerben Hicks. "Lawrence" is Larry Banks who co-wrote the Moody Blues hit, "Go Now."Buy it!

The Underdogs “Love's Gone Bad (Single Version)” from The Complete Motown Singles Vol. 7: 1967 (Hip-O Select / Motown 2007) —This rock record was the first single put out by Motown in 1967. This band was based out of Grosse Pointe, MI & named after the cartoon character. This was the contrast-and-compare-with-the-Chris-Clark-version segment of the show.Buy it!


Arthur Conley “Funky Street” from Soul Directions (ATCO 1968) —Reissue of his 1968 album mainly recorded at American Studios in Memphis. Arthur Conley co-wrote this with Earl Simms & it is about Atlanta's Auburn Avenue.Buy it!


Lyn Collins “Mama Feelgood” from Mama Feelgood: The Best of Lyn Collins (Universal/Spectrum 2005) —Written by Lyn Collins & James Brown & recorded in 1973 for the "Black Caesar" movie soundtrack.Buy it!

Little Dragon “Little Man” from Ritual Union (Peacefrog 2011N  —Highly recommended new release from the Swedish Indie-pop meets electronica band. Yukimi Nagano is one of the more interesting vocalists out there.Buy it!


Goldfrapp “A&E” from Seventh Tree (Mute Records 2008) —From one of my favorite releases of 2008. A&E refers to Accident & Emergency in England.Buy it!


The Beatles “She's leaving Home” from Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (CAPITOL 1967) —What beautiful vocals by Paul McCartney & John Lennon on this track. No Beatles played any musical instruments on this song. This was the mono version.Buy it!


Chocolate Snow “A Day In The Life” from Midwest Funk: Funk 45's From Tornado Alley (now again www.nowagainrecords.com/ 2004) —Music bed. 1973 instrumental version of the Beatles song from a soul & funk band out of Wichita, KS. They take it way out there.Buy it!
