Earl King and Roomful Of Blues “Don't Leave Me Here to Cry” from Glazed (Hep Cat 2009) —Glazed was originally released in 1986, at which point Earl King had recorded in almost a decade. "Don't Leave Me Here..." is a bonus cut to the re-released version of Glazed, featuring Curtis Salgado on vocals (he was Roomful's vocalist/harp man)Buy it!
Corey Harris “Lynch Blues” from Fulton Blues (Njumba 2013) —this is a re-imaging of the song Lynch Blues, which originally appeared on Corey's "Greens From the Garden" album. Fulton Blues is a fine, fine effort...one of my "top 10" of 2013.Buy it!
Annie Mack “Baptized in the Blues” (Annie Mack Music 2013) N —Annie Mack is a fine, fast-risting blues/roots artist from Rochester, MN. She's a heckuva a singer, and a truly soulful young woman. Seek this CD out!Buy it!
Aaron Griffin and Mojo Rising “The Stumble” from Mojo Rising (AGMR 2012) L —young master Griffin tackling Freddie King...Aaron's life is music, and it's going to be fun watching his career over the coming years!Buy it!
Chicken Shack featuring Luther Snake Johnson “Remember Me featuring George "Mojo" Buford” from Remember Me (Muse 1974) —recorded during a couple sessions in 1967, featuring Muddy Waters' band of the time...this is Luther "Georgia Boy" or "Snake" Johnson...there's at least 3 Luther Johnson's out there!Buy it!
Bobby Rush “It's Alright” from More Miles Than Money The Soundtrack To Garth Cartwright's Book (Ace 2010) —Bobby Rush from 1974 on Jewel RecordsBuy it!
Billy Boy Arnold “Bad Luck Blues” from Boogie 'n' Shuffle (Stony Plain Recording Co. 2001) —This release sort of got lost...and that's too bad, as it's one of Mr. Arnold's strongest. It features Duke Robillard's band and compatriots.Buy it!
Sugaray Rayford “Stuck for a Buck” from Dangerous (Delta Groove 2013) N —Rayford is a nice singer out of the San Diego area, although I think I heard he relocated to Phoenix due to his ties to Bob Corritore and the Rhythm Room there.Buy it!
Alvin Jett & the Phat noiZ Blues Band “Wanna Go Home” from na (NA url) L —here's a "new", unreleased track by The Phat Noiz boys...it's been sitting on the shelf since 2009...let Frank or Matt know what you think...I like it a lot!Buy it!
Buddy Flett “Third House on the Left” from Rough Edges (Honeybee/ Fellowship Hall Sound 2013) N —hoo boy..this is the good stuff...new music from the "risen" Buddy Flett. Buddy had a near-death experience due to viral encepalitis, but has miraculously come back better than ever (after having to relearn how to walk, talk, play - everything)Buy it!
Chris Ruest Band “Sleepin' In The Ground” from Live At The Shakespeare Pub, Houston, Texas (self-released 2013) N —Chris and band doing justice to an old Sam Myers' tune...this album isn't available yet, still waiting on artwork to be completed. Thanks to Chris for advancing a copy to me!Buy it!
Lowell Fulson “I'm Sinking” from Tramp and Soul (Virgin 1991) —Lowell Fulson likely has the most often mispelled name in blues (Fulson NOT Fulsom); originally found on the "Tramp" lp; my CD is a re-release featuring both the Tramp and the Soul cds.Buy it!
Dorothy Moore “Misty Blue” from From Where I Stand The Black Experience In Country Music (Warner Brothers 1998) R —per request...from Mr. Michael to Miss Joyce...aw, isn't that sweet (this has been a Casey Kasem dedication moment) Misty Blue was released in 1976 on Malaco, and was written by Bob Montgomery.Buy it!
Matt Guitar Murphy “Headin' Northwest” from Lucky Charm (Roesch Records 2000) —any conversation about the finest blues guitars of the 1950s and 1960s should probably begin, and end, with Matt "Guitar" Murphy. He is the only guitarist that Memphis Slim WANTED to work with (he tended to dislike guitarists very much).Buy it!
Michelle Wilson “I'm Just Your Fool” from Evil Gal Blues (Bullseye www.rounder.com 1994) —she's still out there performing, AND For over 3 years, Michelle hosted 2 weekly radio programs, "Voices of Jazz" and "Jazz n' Blue" on one of the few remaining NPR music stations, WICN, in Worcester, MABuy it!
Otis Spann “Must Have Been The Devil” from The Blues Never Die! (Fantasy 1990) —this disc features Otis in front of Muddy Waters' band, with Waters' himself billed as "Dirty Rivers" for contractual reasons. James Cotton is essentially co-featured on this album.Buy it!

Milton Hopkins and Jewel Brown “Evening Breeze” from Milton Hopkins and Jewel Brown (Dialtone 2012) —this is a tasty instrumental putting the focus firmly on Milton Hopkins' guitar talents. What a tastful player! He was an in-demand session and tour player from the mid-50s thru the 70s, spending 9 years with B.B. King's band in the 70s.Buy it!
