from From A Whisper To A Scream (Kudu 1972) —Reissue of her 1972 King release. Sublime version of a song written by Marvin Gaye & Anna Gordy and arranged & conducted by Pee Wee Ellis.
Allen Toussaint “St. James Infirmary”
from The Bright Mississippi (Nonesuch www.nonesuch.com 2009) —2009 instrumental version featuring Allen Toussaint (piano), Don Byron (clarinet), Nicholas Payton (trumpet), Marc Ribot (acoustic guitar), David Piltch (bass) & Jay Bellerose (drums). Produced by Joe Henry.

from The Bert Berns Story: Vol. 1 1960-64 (Ace 2008) —Written by Bert Berns & recorded for the Decca label in 1964. This was the original version of the song but Them (with Van Morrison) had a much bigger hit with it several months later.
Kirsty Maccoll “In These Shoes?”
from Tropical Brainstorm (V2 1999) —Written by Pete Glenister & Kirsty MacColl and found on her last album which was completed just months before her untimely death.
La Sera “Never Come Around”

Susan Cowsill “Sweet Bitter End”
from Lighthouse CD Album (Threadhead Records 2010) —Written by Susan Cowsill & Tad Armstrong (who also plays bass on most of this album). Susan Cowsill & The Russ Broussard Duo will be appearing at Off Broadway this Friday (7/15). This is an early seated show that begins at 7 PM. Highly recommended.

Gillian Welch “The Way It Goes”
