Catherine Britt “Sweet Emmylou”
from Always Never Enough (ABC Music 2012) —Aussie singer/songwriter with a stunning new release, a contender for cd of the year, and when she has a bad day she listens to Emmylou, good idea.
Coal Porters “November Nights”
from Tribute to Gram Parsons (Rhino 1993) —Sid Griffin's band picks this early, obscure Gram song as their contribution to this fine tribute, this song was originally released by Peter Fonda on a 45 RPM, Gram never sung it.
Gram Parsons “Brass Buttons”
from Gram Parsons GP/Grievous Angel (Reprise 1990) —Had to end this set with Gram himself from his amazing solo releases combined on one cd, everybody needs this cd in their collection, an all star band and Emmylou's debut.
Steve Forbert “All I Asked of You”
from Over With You (Blue Corn 2012) —been awhile since Steve's been in our fair city, but he'll remedy that Thursday Decenber 6 when he'll appear at the Old Rock House supporting his best new album of original tuneas in years, expect a great show.
Lucinda Williams “Mississippi You're On My Mind”
from Quiet About It, A Tribute to Jesse Winchester (MBD 2012) —How can you go wrong when you've got Lucinda, Lyle Lovett, Rosanne Cash, Jimmy Buffett, James Taylor, Emmylou, Rodney Crowell, Vince Gill, Elvis Costello, and more singing Jessie's wonderful tunes.
Harmony James “Send Down An Angel”
from Tailwind (WM Australia 2009) —New discoveries are one of my favorite things, thanks to Kasey Chambers & Shane Nicholson for featuring Harmony on their latest, that spotlighted young Aussie singer/songwriters, here she does a terrific take on an Allison Moorer tune.
Donal Hinely “GASOLINE”
from We Built a Fire (Scuffletown Records 2002) —Donal has been an under the radar singer/songwriter for years, a recent renewal has produced a series of great new releases, also has released a couple of albums playing the glass bottles.
Tim Keller “Lefty and the Black Pontiac”
from Little Miracle (Chamisa 1995) —Met Tim at Kerrville in the mid 90's and he gave me his cd, which I dearly love, tried many times on the internet since to locate him without success, if you know where Tim has gone let me know.
Willie Nile “Golden Down” (Razor & Tie 1981) —Willie should be a household name among music lovers, why he isn't mystifies me, the classic title cut from one of his earliest releases.
John Wort Hannam “Before I Wake”
from Queen's Hotel (Black Hen 2009) —Always like to let Rich and Allan contribute a set of tunes for helping me out on Sundays, this is Rich's set straight from the KDHX basement, starting with a fine Canadian singer / songwriter..
Dan May “The River Run”
from Dying Breed (Dan May 2011) —Thanks, Rich it's always a treat when Rich and Allan turn me on to new stuff, hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
Van Morrison “Someone Like You”
from Poetic Champions Compose (Polydor 1987) —A phone request, don't get to Van as much as I should, but when you've only got 2 hours a week and so very many wonderful singer/songwriter there are a lot of favorites that you don't get to.
Bap Kennedy “Moonlight Kiss”
from Lonely Street (Lonely Street Discs 2000) —You might remember this tune from the John Cusack /Kate Beckinsale film Serendipty, the Irish singer/songwriter is a former member of the band Energy Orchard.
Tom Russell “Heart of Hearts”
from Box of Visions (Philo 1993) —Dug out an old Tom favorite just because I thought it was a real good fit next to the last 2 songs, Tom has a great new book out featuring lyrics and music to many of his songs, along with comments and stories. Village Records.com.
Adam Carroll “Lacy”
from South of Town (Down Hole Records 2006) —My favorite of all the great young Texas singer/songwriters and in my humble opinion one of the best debut albums ever, produced by, who else, Lloyd Maines.
