Nice trick

Kirkwood Theatre Guild caps their season with an unusual choice for a musical. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels does not set a boy-meets-girl plot to sweet love songs. Jeffrey Lane's book, adapted from the movie of the same name, follows a con man-meets-con man plot. David Yazbek sets lyrics and music to a perfectly hummable musical theatre score.

Chill

Of course the man who essay writers would create a cartoon about foul-mouthed kids and who would think that a musical about Mormon missionaries in Africa could find a place on Broadway would be inspired to create yet another musical by one of those incidents of cannibalism among lost stragglers through the frozen Rockies.

A.D. or ADD?

It has singing and dancing and multiple characters and multiple scenes, but calling A.D. The Musical a musical doesn't make it a musical. It's more like a church pageant, and as Judy Newmark pointed out in her very generous review in the Post-Dispatch, it probably would be more comfortable, and raise fewer misplaced expectations, in a church rather than in the Ivory Theatre, where it currently resides through Sunday afternoon, April 17.
