The Delines are a new project led by songwriter and novelist Willy Vlautin and Amy Boone of the Damnations TX, and including members of Richmond Fontaine, the Decemberists and the Minus 5. As heard on the luminous, country-soul track "I Won't Slip Up," the band's sound is as familiar and consoling as a favorite drink in a favorite bar, and as memorable and bittersweet as the hard-luck stories shared there.
Led by the singing and songwriting of Kurt Marschke, and highlighting pedal steel, organ, piano and the sweetest harmonies this side of Gram and Emmylou, Deadstring Brothers return with another contemporary classic of country soul, "Like a California Wild Fire."
What is country soul? It's Al Green and Joe South, a good song and a Hammond B3, a touch of Nashville and a dose of Muscle Shoals. And it's "Memphis," as sung by the young, gifted Kait Lawson.
