Festival International de Louisiane is a springtime music festival in Downtown Lafayette, La. bringing talented artists from all over the world to a five-day free festival.
The description in the festival program looks intriguing: “Starting from an underground tavern in Athens, 1923, the band embarks on a journey across Time and Culture, riding the waves of music. Boundaries dissolve as Eastern melodies weave in and out of Western harmonies.”
Twangfest 16 continued at the Duck Room Thursday night with a diverse lineup of crowd favorites.
Thousands of music fans made their way to the "land of the delta blues" last weekend for the annual Beale Street Music Festival. This was my fifth time attending the long-running fest, part of the city's month-long Memphis in May celebration in Tom Lee Park on the banks of the Mississippi River.
Initially a tribute to the late Merle Watson, Doc Watson's son and musical partner, MerleFest has evolved into one of the biggest festivals of its kind, on par only with Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in San Francisco, both of which draw between 70 and 80,000 people each year.
This year's Beale Street Music Festival took place in Memphis from May 4 through May 6.

12:30 p.m. Home Slice Pizza. This New York-style pizza joint in south Austin hosts a fantastic day party each year, and this year's lineup is quality.
Noon. Twangfest day party at Jovita's in Austin. This is the first of two Twangfest SXSW day parties presented by 88.1 KDHX, running from noon until 6 p.m.
2:37 p.m. Finally arrived in Austin. Fourteen hours in the car is a long time, but such a trip can be made more palatable given some great company, fun conversation and stimulating tunes to wash it down. Such was my good fortune on the journey southwest down interstates 44 and 35.
