The 23 Annual Whitaker St. Louis International Film Festival continues through Sunday, November 23 with a diverse feast of films on offer. Cinema St. Louis' programs organized under the theme "Race in America: The Black Experience" include one of my all-time favorite films: director Martin Ritt's 1972 narrative feature "Sounder" starring Cicely Tyson and Paul Winfield.

Between now and then, there are dozens of short and feature, fiction and nonfiction, animated and live action films from which to choose.

The 21st annual Whitaker Saint Louis International Film Festival kicks off Thursday, November 8th followed by a ten-day feast of cinematic offerings and events. Film lovers get to choose from over 400 feature and short films, most of them St. Louis premieres. In addition, dozens of filmmakers will accompany their films, introducing them and leading discussions after screenings.

Q-Fest, Part 1 offers diversity in films

This year’s fifth annual St. Louis Q-Fest offers something for just about everyone with 21 fiction and nonfiction features plus seven short films with the U.S., Canada, Belgium and Italy represented. Q-Fest kicks off its five days at the Tivoli at 1:30 Sunday, April 22nd with four very different films from which to choose.

A Wealth of Films at the St. Louis Film Fest

The 20th annual St. Louis International Film Festival begins spectacularly Thursday, November 10th at the Tivoli with The Artist. Impressively executed and immensely entertaining, The Artist charts the fading career of silent film star George Valentin juxtaposed with the rise of Peppy Miller. St. Louisan John Goodman plays film director Zimmer in this gorgeous, masterful black-and-white homage to silent film.

Each year the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominates five films in the Short Film Live Action category and five in the Short Film Animation category. It's a treat to get to see all of them in programs at the Tivoli ahead of the February 27th awards ceremony.
