'We Have a Pope' Frolics at the Vatican

Italian writer/director and actor Nanni Moretti can make serious films, as he proved in The Son’s Room, focused on the impact on a family after the accidental death of the teenage son. Moretti can also be quite amusing—see Dear Diary. In We Have a Pope, he winningly combines the silly with the satirical.

Passione is director/writer/actor John Turturro's loving tribute to the music of Naples, or Napoli as he accurately calls it. Eclectic in his taste, Turturro stages 23 songs, similar to music videos but with less frantic editing. He strings them together with brief observations by him or by Neapolitans with no apparent organizational thread, though each song is sufficiently entertaining.
