"Rust and Bone" is a suggestive, curious title for an unusual film. Academy Award winner Marion Cotillard stars as Stéphanie, an orca whale trainer involved in a horrific accident. In a parallel and soon intersecting plotline, Matthias Schoenaerts is Ali, an unemployed, single father struggling to keep his and his five-year-old son Sam's lives on track.
Steven Soderbergh is a very smart director. He's proved this already with an amazing range of films: Traffic, The Limey, Out of Sight, Ocean's Twelve and Thirteen, and Sex, Lies, and Videotape. Now add his recent film Contagion. Knowing the apocalypse extravaganzas, Soderbergh astutely chooses a different tack with the terrifying idea: the worldwide, rapid spread of a deadly virus.
Writer/director Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris is a light, playful, enjoyable bonbon. In this cinematic love letter to Paris, Allen also pays tribute to literary artists and painters of 1920s Parisian life through Gil, a contemporary, discontented Hollywood scriptwriter.
