I recently took a look at my 10 favorite national albums of last year; here's my look at the best releases out of St. Louis in 2013.
Each year brings more and better albums by St. Louis artists. 2013 brought so many that it wasn't possible to limit a list to the 10 best. It’s not a bad problem to have.
Throughout the year our volunteer photographers battle inclement weather, large crowds, long lines, over-zealous dancers and crazy lighting schemes in order to deliver some incredible concert photos for our readers and listeners.
If you're ready to hear music made right here in the St. Louis area, music that will excite you just as much or more than anything released all over the world, here's the perfect starting point.
When I asked the members of Middle Class Fashion how involved they felt they were in the St. Louis music scene, most were hesitant to answer. "I guess we're pretty involved," bassist Brian McClelland said apprehensively. "Yeah, I guess so," singer Jenn Malzone added.
The 8th annual Midwest Mayhem -- KDHX's annual member thank-you party -- took place at the City Museum on Thursday, May 9.
Where to begin? The City Museum alone is a multi-level, dizzying attraction of slides, wrought-iron climbing structures, curiosities, aquatic life and gorgeous tile mosaics.
They're writing great songs, releasing albums and playing shows all the time. 2012 brought some fantastic releases from local St. Louis artists -- some brand new to the scene and others sounding better than ever.
