For the past few years it seemed that things were beginning to slow down for the New Pornographers, as if they were beginning to fade. Their new album, "Brill Bruisers," is their revival. Frontman, A.C. Newman has said that after a dark period nothing is holding him down anymore. "Brill Bruisers" is a celebrates this new outlook.

Lists are never perfect. The idea is to remind myself what captivated me throughout the year, and to let others know what they might have missed. And then, I try to say a little more to contribute to thinking about the music of 2013. So, here is what I liked the most on the day that I wrote the list.
There were so many releases in 2013 and I know I only heard a small fraction of them. In my relatively small overall sampling of 2013 album releases, I found a whole lot to like, and it was difficult to narrow them down to a list of 10.
