An act can gauge its fan base by a weeknight show. If Tuesday night's crowd at the Firebird says anything, it says that Astronautilus has a loyal following here in St. Louis.
Converging on the Firebird from the outer fringes of hip hop, Buck 65 and Busdriver, along with Robb Steele and Jason and the Beast, gave us proof that underground hip hop is still like the Wild West, full of pioneers and prospectors mining gold.
Their names are often scribbled at the bottom of the show posters in marker or in italics on the venue website. Sometimes they're a complete surprise.
The Firebird was host to some of the finest musicians St. Louis has to offer Saturday night, with Robb Steele, the Humanoids, and MU330 proving that old-school is the only school that matters.
