From The KDHX Volunteers

I am Carlos, host of KDHX’s Latin Hemispheres. You can hear the show every Sunday morning from 1 am to 3 am live on 88.1 FM or on the archives at any time.

It was around 1988 when I first tuned in to KDHX. What a surprise to hear music with no commercials! The variety of programs were such a breath of fresh air, so intriguing, so entertaining, so engaging. Every once in a while I would make contributions, send in a few bucks here, a few there, but it was the volunteering that took me to the next step. When they asked for bi-lingual help to come in during the Latin show, "Sabados Tropicales", for the pledge drive, I went to the station. A little later on, I began co-hosting “Alma Latina” on Saturday afternoons.

Through all these years, I am proud to continue the commitment to be local and independent. Sometimes those words seem to be overused, but the truth doesn't change. We stand tall, all of us that share that joy of music and to continue to be a shining light that comes out of St. Louis. When I'm out and about and meet people that have been touched by KDHX, it's like seeing an old friend you haven't seen in years. Even though we had just met for the first time, it's a special bond that makes us both feel great.

Eighteen years on the air, bringing listeners the new sounds of Latin music and I still feel wonderful about having the means to do it on the KDHX airwaves.

Gracias St. Louis!
Carlos G. Charles
