The Compton Heights Concert Band of St. Louis is celebrating its 42nd year of serving the metro St. Louis area this year. It is seeking new members with openings in all sections, especially tuba, trombone, French Horn, and percussion.

The Band presents a 6-week summer dual series, Sunday Serenades & Musical Mondays (38th year), holiday pops concert, and Memorial Day concert.  Rehearsals are on Monday evenings 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. Rehearsals are in the Band’s rehearsal hall, the former Immaculate Conception-St. Henry Church, entrance at the rear of the Band’s offices, the former rectory, located at 3120 Lafayette Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63104, at Michigan Avenue. The Band’s parking lot is accessed off Michigan and is well lit and attended. Enter Michigan from Lafayette Avenue.

The fall rehearsals mark the start of preparations for next summer’s Sunday Serenades & Musical Mondays series as well as the Compton Heights Concert Band’s 20th Annual Holiday Pops Spectacular concert in December, an exciting gala event kicking off the holiday season!

The Band’s Maestro for 20 years is Edward Dolbashian Music Director and Conductor.  He also helms the St. Louis Civic Orchestra of Chesterfield. He retired recently as Director of Orchestras and Orchestra Conducting Studies at the University of Missouri, Columbia, as well as music professor. Harry Swanger, Founder, President and bassoonist, started the Band in his Compton Heights historic home built by the Barber Shop Chair and equipment maker, Koken.

The Compton Heights Concert Band follows a preservationist philosophy maintaining the unique American art form known as the American Concert Band in the tradition of John Philip Sousa. Mr. Sousa’s band and concerts became known world-wide as the world’s greatest pops concerts featuring “something for everyone” including superb soloists.

The 65-piece Compton Heights Concert Band is made up of outstanding community players of all ages, exceptional free lance professionals, and high school college scholarship winners in the Band’s unique Sousa-U competitive program providing private lessons while in school and 4-year college scholarships ranging from $500 to $1250/year. Over 70 young musicians have gone through this program, Sousa-U, in the last 12 years.
