Die Fledermaus

Winter Opera St. Louis – a non-profit, professional opera company whose mission is to provide St. Louis with world class operatic performances during winter months – opens its 12th season with J. Strauss’ delightful comedy, Die Fledermaus (The Vengeance of the Bat.) An opening performance at 7:30pm on Friday, November 9 will be followed by a second performance at 3:00pm on Sunday, November 11. Winter Opera’s production of Die Fledermaus is sponsored by Mary Pillsbury and will be performed in English with projected supertitles.

The story of Die Fledermaus revolves around a practical joke. After being embarrassingly stranded in a bat costume in the middle of the city, earning him the nickname “Dr. Bat,” Falke decides to exact revenge on his friend Eisenstein at a costume party. In an evening of drinking, mistaken identities, and lust, will Falke’s plan work or will Eisenstein see through the veils? This comic operetta is filled with laughter and memorable melodies and will be an unforgettable evening of entertainment.
