ELEKTRA
Critique Theatre company proudly presents Anne Carson’s translation of Elektra by Sophocles, musically scored by the album Electra Heart by Marina and the Diamonds, and directed by Spencer Lawton. This is a modern adaptation styled after the early 2010s Tumblr promotional campaign made by Marina. The performances, designs, and work are done by professional and student artists equally in collaboration with the SLU Theatre and Dance program. This project will shed light on an often overlooked play in the Greek canon, and it will explore how feminity can be weaponized in a strict, patriarchal society. By incorporating the album as a form of structure, the piece hopes to bring a modern struggle to an old conflict. This will be Critique Theatre Company's first in-person performance and will take place in Xavier Hall Mainstage on May 13th and 14th at 8 pm. Tickets are free to reserve but donations are highly encouraged and will be used to pay our performing ensemble.
