Early Music Missouri presents A Baroque String Band: Music by Corelli, Lully & Muffat
Early Music Missouri continues its 2024 -2025 Main Stage series with a concert by three of the most important and innovative composers of the 17th-century. Lully in France, Corelli in Italy and Muffat in Germany shaped the early string ensembles that would become our symphony orchestras.
Baroque violin virtuoso Daniel Lee is joined by EMMo favorites Charles Metz on harpsichord and Samuel Breene on Baroque violin and the members of the EMMo Chamber Orchestra. The orchestra features EMMo’s resident Baroque cello virtuoso, Stephanie Hunt as well as Baroque violists Celina Boldrey and Timothy Eshing.
Daniel and Sam perform together on the East Coast in the Providence Baroque Orchestra but this is their first appearance together with EMMo. Daniel was the featured violin soloist in EMMo’s recent concert featuring several of Bach’s “Brandenburg Concerti” and Sam has appeare on EMMo concerts regularly to lead the Chamber Orchestra and as part of both the duo Musicke’s Cordes and trio Un tas de cordes.
An ideal space for early chamber music, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church offers a stunning visual space with a superb acoustic. Parking is free, including handicapped parking and the building is readily accessible by ramp and elevator.
Admission is $20 at the door with reduced rates for students.
Early Music Missouri is the foremost presenter and promoter of Early Music performance in the region, offering eight concerts of Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque music each season. Performance specialists play reproductions of or actual historical instruments from the periods.
