Early Music Missouri presents Ground & Fire: Virtuosic Variations & Improvisations
Early Music Missouri opens its 2024 -2025 Main Stage series with a concert of 17th-century music for recorder and Baroque cello.
St. Louis’s own virtuoso recorder player, Anne Timberlake is joined by Chicago’s Jeremy Ward for a performance of fantasies, virtuosic dance divisions and over-the-top improvisations. The music ranges from Medieval laments to Baroque trio sonatas and includes music by William Byrd, Arcangelo Corelli, Jacob van Eyck and others.
The performers met as students in Oberlin Colleges famed Early Music program and have had flourishing careers across the country. Their duo performances are a recent development and EMMo is thrilled to present Anne and Jeremy together in concert.
An ideal space for early chamber music, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church offers a stunning visual space with a superb acoustic.
Parking is free, including handicapped parking and the building is readily accessible by ramp and elevator. Admission is $20 at the door with reduced rates for students.
Early Music Missouri is the foremost presenter and promoter of Early Music performance in the region, offering eight concerts of Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque music each season. Performance specialists play reproductions of or actual historical instruments from the periods.
