KDHX Donor Spotlight: Carol Boss

KDHX Donor Spotlight: Carol Boss

Carol Boss and her family have been supporting KDHX since 2002. She supports KDHX financially with single and monthly donations and recently donated a vehicle to the station. She also has been a great KDHX ambassador by recording a donor testimonial and by sharing her appreciation of the station with others. We thank Carol and her family for their contributions to the success of KDHX!

Tell us about yourself:

I live in Affton; we used to live in Shaw (South City). I grew up in a small town in Southern Central Missouri. Have lived in St. Louis since 1995. I am an artist and graphic artist by trade. My kind of claim to fame is that I painted the musician mural at Hwy 61 Roadhouse and painted Big George Brock’s Blues Bus. I started managing Big George Brock in 2009. Going to see music and taking photos and videos of the bands and fans is my favorite pastime—it gives me inspiration for painting. Most of the time, my husband Matt, who is an avid KDHX fan, and my son go to the shows with me. I would say we are a music-loving family.

How long have you been listening to KDHX?

I started listening to KDHX in the mid-to-late 90' and have been listening ever since.

Do you remember when you first discovered KDHX? Do you have a KDHX "origin story?"

I used to work at Busch Creative Services. One day I was sitting in my cubie and my friend Darryl walked in and commented on the oldies station I was listening to. He said, "You know all the cool kids listen to KDHX." That was the first time I heard of it and have been a fan since.

Why do you support KDHX?

Well, where would we be without so many types of music? I feel a sense of community when I go to hear music and KDHX supports many of the local musicians. I think music and art go hand in hand but really it's the sense of community I love. Think of it like “music church.”

Why should others support KDHX? In your opinion, why is KDHX important?

The community needs to come together and support what is St. Louis. KDHX is our voice so to speak. You all play the music we love and support the artists and arts we love. Think it is a win, win.

Do you have any favorite KDHX programs?

Ronnie Wisdom's Shake 'Em On Down is my favorite program. I love the mix of local and Mississippi Hill Country Blues. Also love Art Dwyer's Blues in the Night and Papa Ray's Show. I am mostly a blues fan but I tune in whenever I can. Always time to learn about new music.

Is there anything else you would like to share about KDHX?

I just want to say how much I appreciate all that you do. It is amazing this station runs off of volunteers who have a passion for KDHX and music. Really, thank you for being there for all of us during the journey of life.
