The Respite Sequence: New Work by Jenna Bauer

Opening Reception:  May 3rd. 6 to 10pm

Hoffmann LaChance Contemporary is pleased to present Jenna Bauer’s new series of paintings, The Respite Sequence.

Bauer's paintings are pathways into light-filled, bucolic landscapes.  From a distance, the landscapes appear calm and inviting. However, upon closer inspection, the viewer is met with a flurry of countless intersecting arcs that drag the pigment endlessly throughout the surface of each painting. The paintings are complicated, and, perhaps, not as inviting as they first seemed.

Bauer creates connections between elements of visual art and life: the widely varied responsibilities of our collective to-do lists.

Bauer, a multidisciplinary artist, maintains a studio practice of painting, printmaking, drawing, and social sculpture, extending this work into various arenas of the community through teaching, performing and developing arts educational curricula and programming.

She has maintained studios in Hell’s Kitchen, the Hudson River Valley, and her hometown: Saint Louis.
