Gauguin’s Arts of Innovation: Rethinking the Boundaries of Modern Art

This lecture considers the broad range of Gauguin’s artistic production, ranging from his engagement with Impressionist style and subjects, to his radical experimentation in ceramics, to his innovative art produced in Tahiti for a French audience. His complementary work as a writer will also be addressed, focusing on an important manuscript in the Museum’s collection that he wrote while in Polynesia on the topic of global religion and modern society.
