Pre-Solar Grains: Solids From Other Stars Studied in the Lab - Dr. Josiah Lewis, Washington University
Presolar grains are dust-sized particles older than our solar system. They were formed billions of years ago by dying stars. The grains traveled through deep space and mixed with the dust and gas that formed our solar system. They reveal much about stars and the synthesis of the elements. Dr. Lewis will discuss his studies of presolar nanodiamonds, which are diamond particles too small to be seen with a regular microscope. He is a member of the McDonnell Center for the Space Sciences at Washington U. Cosponsored by St. Louis Astronomical Society and NASA MO Space Grant Consortium.
