Old North Unveils First Shipping Container Home at Annual House & Community Tour

On Saturday, May 11th from 10:00am - 4:00pm, the Old North St. Louis Restoration Group will host their annual House & Community Tour with a spotlight on the first-ever shipping container home in the city of St. Louis. The home located at 2901 N. 14th will be completed just in time for a special VIP sneak-peek party on Friday, May 10th where tour-goers will have the opportunity to chat with the owners and enjoy complimentary snacks, wine, and beer donated by Rockwell Brewing. 

Each year the Old North St. Louis Restoration Group - a community development nonprofit founded in 1981 - hosts this tour to show off the incredible community that exists in Old North and the revitalization efforts that are underway. The event features rehabbed and newly-built homes, but also a variety of community gardens, apartments, small businesses, history museums, and historic churches. Back again for the third year, both the Griot Black History Museum and the George B. Vashon Cultural Center are included as tour stops. 

Beginning at 12:00pm, the Ragged Blade Band will be featured on the Crown Square Stage across from historic Crown Candy Kitchen, followed by one of President Obama’s 2018 favorites, local artist Tonina at 2:00pm. Zuka Arts, Central Print and the Old North St. Louis Restoration Group Gallery will also feature local artists on display. 

Tickets can be purchased in advance online for $15 general admission or $50 VIP at www.onsl.org/HouseTour.

All proceeds from the event benefit the Old North St. Louis Restoration Group as they work to continue building a welcoming community for folks from all walks of life. Parking will be available along the streets and in the rear lots behind the Crown Square development. Public transportation is encouraged as Old North is a short bus ride from downtown Metro stations.
