Bluegrass Pickin' One More Time
The State Historical Society of Missouri invites you to join us on Sunday afternoon, May 20, for Bluegrass Pickin’ One More Time. The event, which will be held at the Havener Center on the Missouri University of Science and Technology campus in Rolla, celebrates the Jones family’s Dixon bluegrass festival and promotes the preservation of Missouri bluegrass for future generations. By bringing together Mona Jones, Jim Orchard, Jimmie Allison, and their bands, we will commemorate the forty-year run of Bluegrass Pickin’ Time at Dixon and enjoy an afternoon of the best traditional bluegrass music.
Mona Jones has made a lasting contribution to the legacy of bluegrass in Missouri by donating her family’s collection of flyers, programs, photographs, personal papers, and audio recordings to the Society for permanent preservation. Renowned fiddler and band leader Jim Orchard, one of the Dixon festival’s most steadfast friends, single-mic style award winning musician Jimmie Allison and Professor Wayne Bledsoe, longtime emcee at Dixon and the host of Public Radio KMST’s “Bluegrass for a Saturday Night,” also have contributed papers, photos, and recordings. These donations are a significant addition to the State Historical Society’s holdings relating to music.
